First, head to the New York Times Games website or the NYT Crossword app to play. Then, choose a starting Wordle word. This word:
Must be a real English word and five letters long. Cannot be a proper noun. Should not be a plural noun ending in S; although these can be used as guesses, the answers will not be one of them. Should contain as many common letters used in Wordle puzzles as possible.
Type the chosen five-letter word into the Wordle site and press enter. This will make the letters of the chosen word change colors to give players some clues to the real answer of the day.
Green letters are right. Gray letters are wrong. Yellow letters are right but in the wrong place in the word.
Given these hints, players need to keep trying new words and getting new hints from their colors until they guess the word of the day or they run out of their six total tries. Puzzles reset daily at midnight.
