How To Play Wordle
As a quick note: while there are loads of copycats and clones of Wordle, the original version is hosted on the New York Times Games site or the New York Times Crossword app. This is the original version; it was created by the developer behind powerlanguage and purchased by the newspaper giant back in February. This article is all about the NYT version, and other Wordles will have different answers and might have slightly different rules. That said, here are the rules of the NYT’s Wordle.

First, choose a starting Wordle word. It must be five-letters long and a real English word. Type the chosen starting word into the website. Press enter; this will cause the letters of the chosen word to change colors. Green letters are right, yellow letters are right but in the wrong place in the word, and gray letters are incorrect. Using these clues, pick another word and type it into the site. The letters of this word will also change to give players even more clues. Keep trying new words and getting new clues until the word is guessed or players run out of the six total tries they get. Wordle puzzles reset daily at midnight local time, meaning there is only one word puzzle per day for everyone. After players complete the puzzle of the day, the Wordle menu will pop up. This menu has a spoiler-free share button as well as a bunch of stats like win streaks, total puzzles played, and more.
