The 23rd edition of AfroBasket Women has tipped off at Mozambique with 12 African nations fighting for continental honours. The 2013 AfroBasket Women will be held from September 20 to 29, 2013 at Maputo, Mozambique.

The top two teams from 2013 ArfoBasket Women will represent FIBA Africa in the 17th edition of the FIBA World Basketball Cup for Women which is to take place from September 27, to October 5, 2014 in Turkey.

2013 AfroBasket Women will bring together 12 qualified nations from FIBA Africa. Participating teams are divided into two groups with top four teams from each group will enter to the quarterfinals of the championship. Following are the groups:

The first AfroBasket Women was held at Guinea Conakry from April 11-14, 1966. Angola are the defending champions of the AfroBasket Women. Senegal is the most successful team in the AfroBasket Women as they have won the continental honours 10 times.
