How to Set Up a Text Scheduling Shortcut
Adding and using a shortcut is a lot simpler than it sounds. Make sure you have the Shortcuts app before you begin, and then you follow these easy steps to set up the shortcut to schedule text messages:
Open the Shortcuts app. At the bottom of the screen, you will see three different options. Tap on Automation. If you have never added an automation before, you will have to tap on the plus (+) icon. Otherwise, you will go straight to the next step. Select Create Personal Automation. A popup screen with different automation options will appear. You can choose any according to the time, place, or circumstance that suits you. For example, if you want to schedule a text for a particular time every day, you can choose Time of Day right at the top. The first dialogue box will say Send “Message” to Recipients. Tap on Message in this sentence and type out the message you want to send. Now tap Recipients and choose your preferred contacts. Press Next when finished. The final screen allows you to review the automation you have created. If you want to be asked before the automation runs, keep the toggle on for Ask Before Running. If you want your text to be truly automatic, you should disable this option. Tap Done after you have finished reviewing. Your shortcut has now been created. How to Delete or Disable the Shortcut
Say you don’t want to send the scheduled text anymore. You can easily delete the shortcut with just a swipe. If you want to pause the scheduled texts for a while, you can disable them and save yourself the hassle of creating the automation all over again in the near future.
Here’s how you can delete the automation for scheduled texts:
Open Shortcuts and go to the Automation tab. Swipe left on the automation you want to delete. Press Delete.
To disable the automation, follow these steps:
Go to the Automation tab and tap on the automation you want to enable. A popup screen of the automation details will appear. On the very top, you will see Enable This Automation with a toggle next to it. Turn the toggle off to disable the automation. Press Done. You can repeat the same steps to turn the toggle on and enable the automation later.
What Are the Different Options to Schedule a Text?
There are certain criteria you can use to create an automated shortcut for a scheduled text. You can choose to send a text based on the time of day or when you arrive or leave at a specific place. An example of how to use this could be sending a text when you leave work or get home to let your family know where you are.
Apart from time and place, you can also choose to send a text based solely on an enabled focus mode, such as Do Not Disturb or Driving. Other options include Wi-Fi connectivity, when Low Power Mode is turned on or off, and at different battery levels.
You can schedule the text to send daily, weekly, or monthly for some options and select a time range for others. Each automation can be customized in entirely different ways and is extensively detailed to facilitate you in the best possible way.
