After Anderson left the team last week to return home to Florida, the Senators revealed Nicholle Anderson’s illness last weekend. At the urging of his wife, the veteran netminder rejoined the team following an injury to his backup Andrew Hammond and led the Senators to a 2-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.

That courageous performance coupled with a shutout of the Vancouver Canucks the day before his trip to Florida earned Anderson NHL first star of the week honors.

The Senators have said doctors and the Anderson family are mapping out a treatment plan for Nicholle, 35, and they don’t know when Anderson will be back.

“We have no clue,” coach Guy Boucher told reporters Thursday, via Postmedia. “It’s a difficult process.”

The Senators prepared for his absence by acquiring Mike Condon from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday. Condon will start in goal for Ottawa in a rematch against the Canucks on Thursday.
