For the uninitiated, VTubers, which is short for “Virtual YouTuber,” are a category of livestreaming personalities who utilize a digital avatar to interact with their audience. VTubers have seen plenty of success in the last couple of years, where they can portray themselves as a fictional character thanks to motion capture and rigging technology. It’s no surprise that SEGA is capitalizing on this with Sonic and Tails becoming VTubers, with the first iteration of the English dubbed debuts of these characters being on TailsTube, hosted by Tails himself.

This first episode was shown off recently, with Tails hosting the stream alongside Sonic, where he answers a variety of questions from fans, though it’s evident that these questions and answers are pre-written. That said, the questions and answers themselves are asked by various characters in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise through an in-universe Twitter clone which highlight some fascinating lore and answers a couple of theories that fans may have had.
One of these theories is the infamous “Two Worlds” canon of the franchise, which was based on comments from Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka. In essence, Sonic and his friends live in a completely different “world” from the human characters, with Dr. Eggman being an exception. TailsTube deconfirms that the games are on two separate worlds, but rather Sonic and his friends live on islands, while any adventures with the human characters take place in a bigger country. This essentially means that Sonic and humans live on the same planet.
Other questions were highlighted during this session with the two, such as the lore behind the Chaos Emeralds, how the environment of the Sonic the Hedgehog world works, as well as why Sonic uses a race car in some of his games. The last question asked if Amy Rose was the Blue Blur’s sister or girlfriend, which Sonic denies the sister part, but openly starts praising her abilities as a hero. Considering Amy’s appearance as the mysterious voice in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog game, Sonic Frontiers, it’s possible that this may be hinting towards her expanded role, with Tails even noting that he would love to bring her on a future episode.
