It was announced last month that Radcliffe will portray the famous musician, Weird Al Yankovic, known for parody classics like “Amish Paradise” and “Like A Surgeon.” In a typical tongue-in-cheek fashion that the musician has made a career out of, Yankovic said, “this is the role future generations will remember him for.”

Newly released set pictures of Radcliffe in costume as Weird Al Yankovic recently appeared on Twitter and the Harry Potter star is unrecognizable in a curly wig, a thick mustache, a short-sleeved camouflage shirt, high water black pants, and checkered vans. Eric Appel, co-writer and director of the biopic, commented on the set photos, saying he is thrilled that people are finally seeing Radcliffe just the way he wanted, “partially costumed and shot with a telephoto lens from across the street.” The sarcastic comment shared on Twitter clearly illustrated the director’s frustration with the leaked photos, but fans reacted positively to them and expressed excitement about Radcliffe in the role.

Little is known about the upcoming biopic at the moment. IMDB only lists one other castmate along with Radcliffe whose role is listed as Biker. The casting of Radcliffe alone is sure to draw eyes to the film, just as the release of the set photos has sparked conversation and excitement about the upcoming project. The first set photos are the first real look at Radcliffe as Weird Al, and they have caught the eyes of Radcliffe fans and those of the parodying musician alike.

The official synopsis of the film promises a raw look at the man behind Weird Al and will follow his early life through to his quick rise to fame. The film, like his music, is sure to embody the parodic and over-the-top characteristics Weird Al is famous for creating. With a script full of Yankovic’s iconic humor and the acting chops of Radcliffe, the film is sure to be an interesting one and, most certainly, weird.

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story does not have a release date but will premiere exclusively on The Roku Channel when available.
